Revolutionizing Utah's delivery routes

Utah PaperBox, a family-owned paper company that has been in business for 109 years, has become the first company in Utah to buy a Volvo VNR Electric Class 8 tractor. According to a news release, the six-battery configuration Volvo VNR Electric has a range of up to 275 miles, which allows Utah PaperBox to service its high-traffic delivery routes between Provo, Ogden, and Salt Lake City. The company plans to install charging infrastructure for the truck by April, which will provide the Volvo VNR Electric with an 80% charge in about 90 minutes using its existing solar power to avoid off-peak charging costs.

Steve Keyser, the president of PaperBox, said that the company has made significant investments in solar energy, including 1,000 solar panels that generate up to 1100 kWh per day and provide power to 40 kWh charging stations for employees' personal electric vehicles at its facility. As part of the company's overall sustainability initiatives, PaperBox purchased its Volvo VNR Electric through the Utah Clean Diesel Program, which is an incentive program offered through the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to offset costs for clean fleet transition. The program required the company to dispose of one of its Class 8 diesel trucks in its fleet to be replaced with the Volvo VNR Electric.
